Editor:
First, my condolences to the family and friends of the young man tragically killed at the intersection of Largo Road and Highway 101.
After reading the letters to the editor in the June 5 edition of Coast Reporter, I was curious enough to visit the intersection myself. I was appalled and shocked to see such a dangerous access to the highway.
Largo Road at its intersection with the shoulder asphalt of the highway is gravel and lower than the shoulder. There are obvious signs that vehicles have to spin their wheels in the gravel before climbing the steep grade to the highway. Precious seconds lost make it impossible to safely judge the approach of oncoming vehicles.
I implore anyone reading this letter to visit this intersection and, after seeing for yourself, to add your voice in demanding that the highway access to Largo Road be closed immediately and permanently, or to allow upgrading of Largo Road with an asphalt surface providing safe access to Highway 101.
