Just get it done

Editor:

I read with interest the article about the suspension of the Blue Bin collection (Coast Reporter, July 15). I read that we were advised on the District of Sechelt website not to place our bins out on July 11. From the number of bins out on the road that day, I guess not many people received the message, maybe because many of us do not check the District of Sechelt website on a daily basis. Maybe not the best way to alert the neighbourhoods in question.

Mayor Milne suggests that since “many residents already use the Salish Soils for recycling for Styrofoam and plastic film,” perhaps we can just take all our recycling there while the district figures out their recycling options. Hmmmm. Interesting.

What about folks who don’t drive or elderly folks who cannot manage to do such a task? We pay for this service of recycling pickup. Will we get a refund for all the days there is no pickup? Or payment for being responsible community members when we take our recycling to the Salish Soils depot?

The job of the mayor, council and staff of the District of Sechelt is to ensure service continues as scheduled. Do not make your problem our problem. There has been plenty of time to negotiate the contract. Get it done, in a timely, professional manner, please and thank you!
