When I read Mr. Lagassé’s letter (“MP shows lack of awareness,” March 18), although I disagreed with him completely, I was not going to write a letter about this subject, nor discuss this with Roger, who is an acquaintance of mine. However, having heard on CBC radio, a day or two before, Margaret MacMillan explaining the Middle East and the Israeli/ Palestinian situation, I felt obliged to write something. Ms. MacMillan said, “To really understand the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, one must know and understand the history of this conflict.” I agree completely.
I lived in South Africa for 23 years and in Israel for 27 years, and I can assure you that to compare Israel to apartheid South Africa is ludicrous. One of my main reasons for leaving South Africa was because of their apartheid policies, not so Israel.
