I am saddened and dismayed that federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna has given the “green light” – an oxymoron if there ever was one – in approving the Woodfibre LNG project. However, I am not surprised. During the election campaign, the only candidates who spoke up against Woodfibre were myself and Ken Melamed. We publicly stated our opposition to the project, citing serious safety and environmental concerns as well as the lack of social licence for the project. The municipalities of Squamish, Gibsons, West Vancouver, Lions Bay and the Sunshine Coast Regional District all passed resolutions against either Woodfibre LNG or LNG tankers in Howe Sound. In addition, thousands of citizens in our community have petitioned against the project. Is our member of Parliament really listening to the voices and representing our community?
What about the Kinder Morgan pipeline proposal?
As Liberal leader, Justin Trudeau was quoted in Metro Calgary News on Jan. 21, 2014: “I am, however, very interested in the Kinder Morgan pipeline … that is making it’s way through. I certainly hope we’re going to get that pipeline approved.”
Is approval of Kinder Morgan next?
