Recently I was walking with my dogs up at the power lines in Selma Park. About 100 feet from Reservoir Road on a wide dirt path, we came across a fresh deer skeleton that someone had unceremoniously dumped there. The skeleton had been picked pretty clean, but each dog grabbed a loose bone. I got the bones away from them – these bones can splinter and rupture a dog’s intestines, which can kill him.
If you must kill wildlife for “sport,” at least take the remains far up into the back country for ravens and eagles to pick clean. Don’t just dump them in an area that’s obviously well used for recreation. Show some respect for the animal you’ve killed, and some consideration for people and their pets, who might also die because of you.
