Early Friday afternoon, June 21, I was driving Highway 101 (the winding part before the Creek turnoff), at the suggested 60 km/h, when I rounded one of the many blind corners and had to slam on my brakes to completely stopped traffic. No warning signs, nothing. The semi truck behind me missed me by scant inches as he tried to stop, too.
When I got to the source of the stoppage and attempted to inform two flag persons that they needed to put their signage further back to warn people, I just got yelled at to keep moving. When I later attempted to get the phone number of the flagging company, I was told it wasn’t listed. What?
Is this responsible and aware traffic control with common sense and foresight enough to realize our highway is an only-access road, on a busy Friday afternoon crammed with ferry traffic, and maybe they should give a warning further back or at least listen to someone who is only trying to help avoid a bad pileup? I think not. I ended up calling the RCMP.
