As tourist season winds down and the weather turns many of us indoors, Sechelt communities will now get a reprieve from the high capacity short-term rental businesses set up near all of us. Our neighbouring jurisdiction of the SCRD has passed new bylaws giving their residents workable and sensible STR regulations, Gibsons is about to do the same. Our district seemingly is prevaricating on how to proceed, making one wonder if they are just kicking the can down the road. It does require resolve and altruism to take up this particular responsibility, as we have seen all around us. To its credit the district has set up an excellent interactive website full of information on zoning and related issues, one being short-term rentals. A comprehensive questionnaire is available that gives each of us the ability to weigh in on this and have our voices heard; if we stand together we can make a difference. The website can be accessed at Sechelt.ca/zoningbylaw
