Editor:
Congratulations to the SCRD for restricting treated water use on lawns. That took guts, and they will catch all kinds of hell for it.
Whether you want to believe it or not, the world is running out of drinkable water in developed non-arid nations. Just ask the folks at NASA. They were concerned about this in the 80s! We need to use drinking water for cooking and drinking, period. Please folks, install a rain catchment system, take up your grass lawns and seed with Dutch white clover while it is raining in early spring or fall. It stays green in drought, fixes nitrogen in your soil, and never needs water after it is established. After a mowing, you won’t be able to tell the difference between it and grass cultivars. Or plant a native or drought-hardy ground cover in the fall just before the rains come. They will establish themselves without a drop of drinking water.
Best yet, plant FOOD!
