Good grief: do your homework

For Sechelt council to choose Canada's Small Business Week to start a repeal process against the Target fish hatchery, apparently one of the Sunshine Coast's most outstanding small businesses, is quite telling.

According to the Sechelt Briefs in last week's Coast Reporter, Coun. Janisch calls the hatchery a "residential area". Before moving to repeal Target's zoning, she should have read the new draft of the District of Sechelt Neighbourhood Plan for the area, which outlines quite well the 100 years of industry in that area, twice as long as the residential history. She could have also referred to the public hearing for that zoning 16 months ago where the only resident bordering the hatchery spoke in favour of the rezoning.

Good grief.
