Re: “Fraser Institute ranking ‘simply silly,’” April 8.
Some people are allergic to accountability. It costs $40 million in tax dollars for our 3,150 pupils, and their annual independent measurable performance is gauged in Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) and graduation test results. The FSA measures how effectively the provincial education curriculum is taught in our schools.
The Fraser Institute neatly presents the Education Ministry’s figures in an understandable way to the public.
Instead of ranting, the SD46 should be celebrating its success. For the first time in many years, it has moved up significantly above the provincial average, with only one school, out of seven analyzed, scoring below the provincial average. It is correct that there can be noticeable differences in test results from year to year. However, it is the trend that counts and I hope that we are at the beginning of a positive trend that parents and taxpayers expect and deserve.
