As we leave the dreary and solitude-inducing months of winter and start to pop our heads out, one can be left with a feeling of “What now?” How do people re-connect with the outside world, get back involved with the happenings of their community, and find out what’s out there?
Get involved with a festival, seriously, whether as a supporter, an audience member, a volunteer, a vendor or an organizer. Whatever.
Society has become this strange place where we’ve all been made to feel like individuals. And we ARE all unique.
But that sense of individuality can be heavy and when you’re taking on the world, being one person can be crushing.
The Sunshine Coast has many opportunities but it also has hindrances. Transportation, income, access to information – these can all lead people to feel even further isolated.
We all need a sense of community. Of belonging. Of feeling like we can get cool stuff done together. Of being a part of a team. While celebrating our differences is definitely important, so is celebrating our similarities. Festivals have that unique opportunity to provide the platform to do both. A place where we can all get together, in whatever capacity we can, and just feel good.
So get involved with a festival.
