The Sunshine Coast is in need of one or more enclosed, off-leash dog parks designated for exclusive use by dogs.

Many communities have recognized that dogs and children using the same playground does not work. Kamloops has five. Some are large and some small. These parks are fully fenced and double gated. The Qualicum Beach park on Vancouver Island is fenced with wood posts and has a four-inch deer fence so it does not need to be expensive either.

There are now 20 greyhounds on the Sunshine Coast as well as several other sight-hound breeds, to my knowledge. These breeds cannot be exercised off-leash unless the area is fully enclosed. Many dog owners do not like to let smaller breeds off-leash because of the dangers that traffic, crowds and wild animals impose.

I would like to hear from anyone interested in working with me toward this goal. I may be reached at [email protected].
