Dragging feet on SSC

Letters

Editor:

My husband and I attended a District of Sechelt council meeting on Aug. 3 and found ourselves wondering if we had stepped back in time to April, if not February, of this year?

We attended the meeting because a presentation was being made to do with SSC Properties, and we were interested in learning what progress had been made as we feel it will, if it moves forward, form a wonderful addition to our immediate community.

We left feeling very disappointed, as it would appear that no progress has been made by council who has yet to review the traffic studies that they were pressing for back in April. Until such time as they deem it worthy of their time, I presume they will continue to use this as an excuse for doing nothing. It’s as if, where this development is concerned, time stands still.

We understand and support the need for proper process, particularly on a development of such magnitude, but it’s time the public had a say. After all, we’re the ones who will to be impacted (favourably or otherwise) by this new community.

Therefore we are asking for mayor and council to, in the case of some, check their personal feelings at the door of District Hall and move the process along so a public hearing can be called and the residents of Sechelt be given the opportunity to be heard. I would think that more than enough time has passed getting to this stage. Perhaps it’s time for less talk and more action before earning a reputation as a “do nothing council.”
