Don’t forget the water

Letters

Editor:

With all the precautions we’re being asked to follow to keep our population safe during this pandemic, it’s easy to forget some of the other issues that have impacted all our lives in recent years.

I’m particularly concerned about the water issue on the Sunshine Coast. We’re now washing our hands more often and for longer periods of time than previously; we’re probably also washing our clothes more frequently. Apparently vegetable gardening is being embraced by a whole new segment of the population. All this will cause even more of a demand for water, which will likely mean severe restrictions when the weather turns warm.

If we all tried, now, to get into the habit of turning off the water for those 20 seconds while we’re washing our hands, then maybe we’d be able to effect that small change in time for summer. If your sink doesn’t have a levered tap, use a disinfectant wipe to turn it on and off. It seems like a small thing but, as we all know after a trip to the dollar store, small things can really add up.
