Dance to our election tune

Editor: Your assertion that "another election is a big waste of time, energy and money" (Coast Reporter, editorial, Sept. 11) is certainly in lockstep with conventional wisdom -for what that is usually worth.

But I would contend that more rather than fewer elections afford the opportunity for greater citizen participation in our (admittedly anemic and moribund) democratic process. Perhaps an annual election -as opposed to every four or five years -is just the ticket for holding politicians' "feet to the fire" in a way guaranteed to give them a hotfoot unless they dance to our tune for a change.
