Curious about IPP talks

Editor: I find it quite curious that two local governments, the Sunshine Coast Regional District and the Sechelt Indian Band should be "eligible" to apply for a licence for an independent power project: i.e. run of river project.

I find it quite curious that two local governments, the Sunshine Coast Regional District and the Sechelt Indian Band should be "eligible" to apply for a licence for an independent power project: i.e. run of river project.

This is particularly curious when our government-run public utility, BC Hydro, cannot build new green energy projects. Since Bill 30 abolished local zoning authority, local governments cannot have any say in whether or not an IPP gets approved in their jurisdiction.

If this partnership does come to fruition, perhaps it will exemplify how all IPP's should be: run by local government, putting environmental impacts and the interests of all B.C. residents first.
