Bypass queue jumpers

Letters

Editor:

To most of us who live and drive on the Sunshine Coast, I suppose that the sign on the main highway from the ferry which says, “Keep Right, Please Pass,” is stating the obvious. Way ahead there may be a heavy truck lumbering along way ahead at well below the speed limit. To those responsible for the sign, thank you. But if the ferry has just unloaded and the left lane is head to toe all the way up the hill, “Keep Right, Please Pass,” is an invitation to speed up the hill at well over the 80 kilometres speed limit. Annoying, of course, but I take my turn in the crowded lane. Guess what? The right lane is handed over to those who really enjoy jumping the queue, to the speed jockeys racing at well over the speed limit and nosing their way into the queue just short of the turn. Not everybody, but quite a few. They know who they are.
