For years on Vancouver Island, volunteers cut broom at this time of year when it blossomed. They then took it to a safe place and burnt it. We could do the same here unless those who lobbied to stop campfires at Porpoise Bay campground object.
The broom is more of a hazard to the environment and well being of our native species than a little smoke. Slash burning never caused as much damage as broom and pine beetle have. In fact, fires got rid of more than they produced.
I don’t have broom at my place – I cut it every time I see it and will continue to do so on my property and elsewhere if I so choose.
