The Sunshine Coast Regional District encourages citizens to “do their duty by removing and controlling the spread of invasive species” (http://www.scrd.ca/Invasive-Species).
Groups of hard-working community volunteer Broom Busters have already begun cutting broom in early bloom. This year volunteers have been thrown a curve ball and consequently have a broom busting disposal dilemma.
The Sechelt landfill does not accept broom. The local green waste contractor has now changed their tune on broom, also refusing to accept cuttings of broom. Will the regional district address this disposal dilemma once and for all by providing accurate information, best management practices, and a clear message on the handling and disposal of noxious invasive species on the Sunshine Coast?
