An honest young boy

Letters

Editor:

This past week at the Sechelt Aquatic Centre several of us in the men’s change room witnessed a heart-warming act by a young boy as we were exiting the area. Eight-year-old Cody, who goes to Kinnikinnick Elementary School, found a dollar on the floor of the change room.

Cody then asked everyone if they had lost the money. He made a point of saying that he wanted to find the person whose dollar it was. Now no one there claimed the money and we told Cody it was “finders keepers” and thanked him for his concern.

I cite this experience as Cody is due the thanks of all of us present and because it shows that there are certainly fine young people in our midst who deserve our admiration. I am not at all sure that I would have acted so honourably at his young age and might well have pocketed the dollar for some candy.

So, bravo Cody! You are a fine young lad and will go far in life with this kind of honesty and concern. I do hope your parents happen to see this note and get a chance to reinforce how much we value your actions.

It was our privilege to meet this fine young boy whose actions belie his young age.
