In response to the Jan. 29 article regarding the Syrian refugee family being settled on the Coast, I couldn’t be more thrilled for their future. I went to school with many first generation Canadians and could never quite understand their single-minded pursuit of academic excellence when my friends and I were content to simply goof off. These classmates understood what it took to get them where they are. For me it was simply what I had always known.
Our culture is not only enriched by new Canadians but we as Canadians are reminded that being Canadian is a very special thing indeed, not to be taken for granted. Welcome, and thank you in advance to this family. You will make us better!
