The following letter was sent to Santa Claus and copied to Coast Reporter for publication.
Dear Santa:
On behalf of all the motorists in Gibsons, thank you, thank you. Well sort of. You must have realized, from severalangry letters in Coast Reporter in the past few weeks, that they really needed a nice Christmas present.
So you told three of your Gibsons elves, Chevron, Shell and PetroCanada, to do just that. Well, they did - one cent less per litre, in lockstep, on Christmas Eve.
I'm sure you told them to get the best possible deals from their parent companies, but it seems that they were too tired (or too lazy), to organize a competition amongst them. "Anything to keep those annoying letter writing rascals happy." And so it happened. And to be fair, they probably did not realize that those parent companies were buddies and would never think of spoiling their buddiness.
