Re: “Council approves street-patio project for downtown,” May 29.
Thank you, Sechelt Downtown Business Association, for creating the project.
Thank you, Sechelt council, for approving it.
Imagine a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly, downtown Sechelt with people gathering in the streets, enjoying a snack in one of the many outside patios, family areas, a place for the chess players to gather, and a general sense of vibrancy and community.
Charles Montgomery, visionary architect and author, reinforces this project’s vision with this quote from his book, Happy City: “The most important psychological effect of a city or town is the way in which it moderates our relationships with other people.”
A gathering place around our central downtown hub is a brilliant step towards promoting community spirit! After all, interaction and connection create happy people.
Thanks also to Dave Hawkins for his “stick-to-it-ness” in working behind the scenes to help make this happen.
What a wonderful reward and gift to all of us for the time when we are free from the constraints of COVID-19. Let’s make this happen!
