Sunshine Coast Residents:
Our regional district is about to borrow $5 million to finance their latest scheme for fixing our water woes and antiquated delivery system under a very undemocratic provision called Alternative Approval Process (AAP). We will pay for this through our taxes for the next 30 years. We can oppose this by filling out a short form called an Electoral Response Form, available at the SCRD building up Field Road or at www.thescca.ca.
More information is available at the Sunshine Coast Conservation Society’s website or the Alliance 4 Democracy’s site. Any resident and/or property owner is eligible. This must be done by July 26 (Tuesday). If only 10 per cent of the electorate oppose this, it will negate the AAP and force a democratic (all public) discussion about any moneys borrowed against our tax base. That is only 1,888 forms to be signed. Also, please keep in mind that the next time elections come around, we can very democratically vote the politicians out.
