A man was arrested and charged with break and enter on Jan. 11 following a robbery of Smokelord Tobacco Shop in Sechelt.

Surveillance footage captured a man prying the deadbolt lock off the front door of 5536 Wharf Ave. and entering the business during the early morning of Jan. 10, according to a release by Sunshine Coast RCMP.

Police arrested 44-year-old Shaymus Moore on Jan. 11. Using a search warrant, officers found and recovered “almost all” retail products from his vehicle, said the release. In total, $1,200 worth of products was stolen from the shop.

“Having surveillance cameras can not only help protect your business, but can assist police in solving other crimes in the area,” said Cpl. Stacey Robinson. “The assistance of other local retailers with good quality video surveillance was crucial in aiding police with the quick arrest of this suspect.”
