Sunshine Coast RCMP say they’ve arrested a man suspected of taking a donation box with about $800 in cash from the Tim Hortons location in Sechelt.

The theft happened Oct. 4 and RCMP released security camera images of the suspect on Saturday.

The pictures show a man who appeared to be in his 30s “fiddling with the box” and RCMP said when staff looked away, “he removed it from the counter and left the store.”

The donations were destined for the Tim Hortons Foundation.

After making an appeal for information from the public, RCMP received several tips about the suspect’s identity and whereabouts and he was arrested around 2 p.m. on Oct. 6 on Cowrie Street in downtown Sechelt.

RCMP have not said if any of the money was recovered.
