Catalytic converter thefts continue

Sunshine Coast RCMP reported the following for June 15 to 22:

The rash of catalytic converter thefts continues on the Sunshine Coast.

Overnight on June 16, a suspect cut and stole the catalytic converters off three vehicles. The first theft occurred in the 5500 block of Brooks Road, Halfmoon Bay, the second theft occurred in the 12300 block of Highway 101, Madeira Park, and the third theft was reported in the 8600 block of Redrooffs Road, Halfmoon Bay. Anyone with any information about any of these incidents is asked to contact RCMP, reference police files 2020-3827, 2020-3828 and 2020-3838.

Earlier this month, multiple catalytic converter thefts were reported on Laurel Avenue, Field Road and Sechelt Inlet Road in Sechelt, at Dan Bosch Park in Madeira Park, and an attempted theft was reported at Sprockids Bike Park near Langdale.

Mischief
• Overnight on June 17, a suspect smashed the window of a vehicle parked in the 15000 block of Highway 101, Madeira Park. This is the second time this vehicle has been vandalized since June 5. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-3840.

• Around 12:30 a.m. on June 17, a security camera in the 5300 block of Benner Road, Sechelt, captured video of a male stopping at a mailbox and lighting something on top of the box on fire. A small flame is seen rising from the mailbox shortly after the male walked away. Fortunately, the fire blew out before any serious damage occurred. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-3848.

• Overnight on June 17, a suspect damaged a flagpole at Pioneer Park, Gibsons, burning the halyard and lowering the Pride flag. Anyone with any information about this mischief is asked to contact RCMP, reference police file 2020-3873.

• Early on June 20, police noticed a smashed window at a business in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street, Sechelt. The suspect did not gain entry and no other damage was reported, but police will be reviewing security camera footage.

Fraud
• On June 17, a Coast resident reported an attempted fraud after an unknown suspect attempted to e-transfer a large sum of money out of her account. The resident’s bank noticed the suspicious transaction and was able to halt it before it was completed. The resident noted that this attempt occurred simultaneously with her computer developing a number of viruses. The resident is having her computer professionally serviced and her bank account has been flagged. Collisions

• On June 20, police attended a single-vehicle incident in the 12300 block of Highway 101, Madeira Park, after a southbound vehicle ended up in the ditch. Emergency Health Services treated the sole occupant and driver for minor injuries. The driver advised that she’d been driving too quickly and then stomped on the brake and lost control of her vehicle. Due to the poor weather, the driver was issued a violation ticket for speed relative to conditions, and her vehicle was towed due to damage. The matter has been referred to ICBC.

• On June 22, a witness reported a possible impaired driver heading north on Highway 101 near Brooks Road, Halfmoon Bay. A second witness called in a short time after to report the suspect vehicle had crashed into a ditch north of Mercer Road, Halfmoon Bay. Police attended and spoke with the uninjured and unimpaired driver, who advised the vehicle started sliding across the roadway before going into the ditch and coming to a rest against a tree. Police noted the vehicle had completely bald tires so the driver was issued a notice and order to have the vehicle deficiencies fixed and inspected before taking it back out onto the road.

Attempted Break and Enter


• Between June 20 and 21, a suspect attempted to gain entry to a residence in the 5400 block of Granite Road, Sechelt. The suspect damaged a door lock as well as a window screen but no entry was gained and nothing appears to have been stolen.

Found Property

• On June 17, a cell phone found near Mission Point in Sechelt, was turned in. Owner may claim within 90 days with detailed description. Please reference police file 2020-3846.

Missing/Stolen Dingy

• On June 17 police were advised that a white Walker Bay dinghy had been stolen from the 6000 block of Gale Road in Sechelt.  The property owner had been advised by a neighbour that a boat with a similar description had been seen floating in Sechelt Inlet. Anyone with any information is asked to call police and reference file 2020-3845.
