National surf champion Catherine Bruhwiler introduced 10 students to stand up paddle boarding (SUP) at the calm Mackenzie beach in Tofino last week.

Even the youngest student learned how to carry the big board on her own. Students learned about ocean safety, the tides, currents and how to read the different waves. The following day the group met further south at Cox Bayfeaturing medium waves where everybody managed to learn the right body positioning, timing and surfing technique to successfully ride several waves.

"We sawa lot of very excited and content faces following this great experience through boosting confidence," said Birgit Breuer, owner of SC Spirit of Excellence, who hosted the clinic. "Professional surferand chef Zac delivered delicious breakfast, lunches and dinners directlyto the group's campsite. Some parents who came along enjoyed some instruction as well."

SC Spirit of Excellence will offer a variety of exciting programs with the Bruhwiler Surf School and Tofino Paddle Surf in 2014. Camp combos will include surfing, SUP, beach volleyball, beach conditioning, etc. in separate groups for kids, youth and adults based on their skill level and age.

Bruhwiler and Breuer are also planning an exclusive adventure camp to one of Tofino's sandy islands -complete immersion in nature while camping and surfing on ahiddenbeach.

Details will be posted at www.scsoe.ca in the near future.
