The golf pros of tomorrow hit the links at the Langdale Heights RV par three Golf Resort on Wednesday night.

A total of 28 youngsters took part in the sixth annual junior golf tournament. The golfers each played a round on the nine-hole course, enjoyed a barbecue dinner courtesy of the staff at Langdale and had the opportunity to nab a ton of prizes thanks to the generosity of many sponsors and businesses on the Coast.

Top prizes included two sets of junior golf clubs, a one-year membership at Langdale and rounds of golf at both Sunshine Coast and Sechelt golf courses.

When all the putts had been made, six golfers emerged from the pack, picking up trophies in their respective age groups.

In the eight and under division, Cameron McAllister was first with a score of 46, and Sabrina Strom was second with a 53.

In the nine/10 division, Maize Longboat fired a 38 to finish first, and Andrew Strom was second with a score of 44.

Marc Desaulniers finished first in the 11/12 division with a 38. Sydney McAllister was second with a score of 41.

Since both Marc and Maize tied with the top score for the tournament, they shared the overall tournament trophy.

There were also two KPs (closest to the pin) awarded to Maize on hole number seven and to Steve Williams on hole number three.

"It's neat to see the kids get serious on the course come tournament time," said tournament organizer Dave Strom. "They might fool around a bit when they come here to practice, but once we start the tournament, they put their game faces on."

Strom wanted to express his thanks to all the golfers, parents and sponsors for helping to make the tournament a success.

Strom said he is stepping down as tourney organizer for next year. He's hoping that someone in the community will step in to organize the event. If anyone is interested in taking on the job, they can call Strom at 604-886-2676.
