This year is the women's league's 20th anniversary, as the league harkens back to its beginning in 1993, back to a time when McDonalds first opened its doors, Bruce Randal was just a handyman with a rusty El Camino and a mullet, and Trail Bay Thunder and CALS Crushers ruled the women's roster.

The new top seeds are Ya Yas and Banana Peppers, who faced off this week at Lions Park. However, just because they are called the Bananas doesn't mean these Pender girls are soft and gooey, and just because they are called Ya Yas, doesn't mean these Sechelt girls will go along with anything, as these two contenders fought a very spirited match.

By the final whistle, though, the Ya Yas' scoring machine had tallied five goals and so took the three points with Kyla 'Machine Gun' Muir scoring four and a single from Jasmine Samedi.

Like the Canucks, the B-Peps play well, but don't quite get the win, according to coach Brent Sheppard.

On Wednesday, Nov. 6, Mayhembested them 3-1 with a B-Pep goal from Miki Eslake, while 'Shepps' Pepps then went down 3-1 to Source on Nov. 10, with a B-Pep strike from Brooke Nattall.

Ya Yas also stayed strong with a recent 4-0 win over Source on goals by Eli August, Sara Agnew and Sidney 'The Kidney' Celli.

In the men's league it was up and coming Halfmoon Bay against the winning streak of the Wolves last Sunday.

Kevin August popped an on-the-run volley over Halfmoon Bay's keeperto put the Wolves ahead, but a Taki Vohalis cross converted by Todd 'Goat Farmer' Graham and a strike from Colin Bradley kept Halfmoon Bay ahead until the last minute when Rich Watson put away his penalty shot.

Chiefs and Sitas showcased a goaltenders' paradise, as Travis Newski and Richard Getzkow put their feet down and their hands up, and stepped lively to keep their opposing top guns shut out, in a 0-0 tie.
