Wolves go on the prowl

After giving up a close 2-1 match to CPU on Sunday on a pair from striker Kurt Vernon, the Wolves were ravenous for a win, and Halfmoon Bay was the next morsel on their path.

After giving up a close 2-1 match to CPU on Sunday on a pair from striker Kurt Vernon, the Wolves were ravenous for a win, and Halfmoon Bay was the next morsel on their path.

Wolves got a pair of goals from Rick Timothy, who decided his sore back wasn't sosore after all, and a single from Thomas Bitting, while Derek Paul dusted off his cleats to trot out and score as well. Halfmoon Bay's speedy striker was kept off the board, and if Jesse Morantz had any more ants in his pants, the league would fit him with leg weights. Keepers Rick Allen and Dana Dixon both put in excellent performances for their squads.

Sita's FC United also posted a 4-1 over Chiefs with a pair from Rich Watson and singles from Ian Armstrong and Adam Nanson. Sita's had regular keeper Roey Kestelman back in their line-up after he took some time off nursing wounded animals, and paratrooped onto the pitch to instead help heal Sita's goals-against average.

Last place Pender Harbour Bananas spoiled first place Ridgepoint Bruins title by earning their first points of the season.

The Bananas are about as dependable as a sockeye run. Within the last year, the Bananas have gone from last place, to winning the tournament and then winning all their first half games, to blowing the final and then losing all their games, to now beating first place Ridgepoint and knocking them into second. Ridgepoint got a pair of goals from a pair of Eoins, with scoring from Eoin 'Doesn't rhyme with coin' Ross and Eoin Walker.

In women's league action, another week and another perfect sheet for Blazers as they beat Sita's Sistahs 4-1. Someone needs to set a radar trap for speeding Ashley Taylor as she scored twice with singles from even speedier Jasmine DiPietro and Christine Campbell. Sienna Doobay scored for Sita's, with some help from Sue Hoy.

Mayhem brought their signature brand of chaos to Fusion on Wednesday with an 8-0 win with pairs from Brooke Jahraus and Trina Giesbrecht, who are approaching Gordie Howe's record, and singles from Steph Ross, Tawny Hargrave, Sara Bradshaw and Jen Marshall.

Since one 8-0 win in a week is never enough, Pender was on the receiving end of another, with Mayhem's goals coming from Angie Horianopoulos, Dawn Bezaire, Hargrave, Kari Bjornson, Steph Ross, Lindsay Elson and Sammie Dixon.
