In the women's league this week, Alvina Paul's seasoned Ya Yas taught the upstart Banana Peppers some R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Unlike Aretha Franklin, though, Paul made her point not with sassy hip wiggling and finger wagging, but by running onto a deep pass behind the defenders and tucking it into the corner for the game's single goal.
Ridgepoint Bruins FC came out of hibernation this week in a 4-1 defeat of first place CPU. Ridgepoint got a pair from Eoin '600' Ross, who played as though he'd got a good night's sleep and eaten a proper breakfast, while singles came from Riley McFerrin and Mike Husband. CPU's single was scored by Ken Campbell.
Pender went up early in their match with Ridgepoint, at which point Rod Kammerle decided to assist the depleted Bulldogs' squad, thinking it would make a difference. Bulldogs' speedy 43-year-old wonderkid Eric Sullivan gave them their goal followed by a handspring. The match was a sporting, friendly affair, though afterwards a wincing Michele Macado asked if someone could subtlety and diplomatically ask Ian Dixon not to hug so hard.
