It was a great weekend of activity for the Sunshine Coast Youth Soccer Association (SCYSA) and its more than 1,000 players as the Vancouver Whitecaps made their second visit in as many years to provide training sessions to all divisions of the league.

Young players from six to 17 were put through some excellent drills delivered by the 10 Whitecaps coaching staff.

Parents and players alike were excited about the activity surrounding the event.

The sessions were put on as part of the player development program of the league.

Funding for this part of the league is made possible by a successful application to the province of British Columbia to support the services provided by the SCYSA. And to further stretch those dollars, the SCYSA wishes to thank the Sechelt Rotary Club for running the concession stand during the two-day event. Additionally, contributions by Wilson Creek MarketPlace IGA and Tim Hortons to the concession will allow the association to conduct other player development programs.

A highlight of the weekend was an exhibition game between a Whitecaps residency team and the Sunshine Coast U16 boys Spartans rep team. It was an exciting game with a large audience in attendance.

The SCYSA thanks the parks department of the District of Sechelt for its support in placing the many bleachers from various fields at Kinnikinnick Park for the comfort and enjoyment of the spectators. The SCYSA board of directors was happy to bring this program to its membership.

If you have any ideas for more activities or would like to be a part of the program, see www.scysa.ca for more information.
