Wet weather makes for tough matches

The rainy weather made things a little more interesting in last Sunday's matches in the women's and men's Sunshine Coast adult soccer leagues.

In women's action, Ya Yas edged Sitas 4-3 in their 'rain bowl' match.

Tasha Wells scored a pair for Sitas, nailing a corner kick and a single from their limping lightning bolt on the wing, Katie Rothenbush.

Earlier in the week Sitas picked up a win against first place Blazers, which their excited media liaison described in capital bold letters. Rothenbush scored a pair, while Olivia Cantarutti harassed Blazers striker Ashley Taylor within the limits of the law.

Source also managed to edge Blazers 5-4, with Kim Starnes burying her header, while Blazers strikes came from Kari Rubboli, Chelsea Holm and 'Jackie-O' Ostrovsky scoring twice.

In the men's league, CPU took their match with IGFC Wolves 6-1, as Wolves strikers Dan Muir and Junior Dixon watched from the sidelines. Both teams wheeled their heavy artillery to the 12-yard line for penalty shots, as Ken 'Kenny the Cannon' Campbell and Leon 'Lion of Sli'mon' Timothy stepped to the spot.

While common sense would advise hiding under a car when facing such close range firepower, keepers Dana Dixon and John Lussier stood their ground as the shots whizzed past them. CPU's other goals came from Eoin Walker, Roman Horat and Eric Pinfold.

Ridgepoint Bruins also edged Wolves 3-0 on a hat trick from Mike 'Cookie' Husband. While Eoin Ross will fill a concrete form like nobody's business, the net remained elusive for him, though he clanged the bar and posts like a Will Farrell cowbell.

Halfmoon Bay and Sechelt Chiefs had a sporting match at Connor Park under the head masterly eye of referee Jim Gray. Chiefs' defenders heard an "arriba, arriba" just before turning to see Jesse 'Speedy Gonzales'Morantz fly by to score Halfmoon Bay's single strike while Scotty 'Tissue' Johnson gave Halfmoon Bay plenty of reasons to sniffle as he scored and set up Flyin' Ryan Paul for the Chiefs for four goals.
