The U13 Wave brought home their third consecutive win last Saturday, continuing their strong start to the season.
The efforts of coaches Ken Campbell and Trevor Fawcett are paying off, as evidenced by the 4-3 win over Dunbar Spartans.
The game was tied at the half on goals by Jasper Deasey and Logan Nattall.
The Wave's solid defensive line was led by the relentless efforts of sweeper Jagger Campbell and supported by feisty Alex Toigo, unshakable Leif Magnussen, and the new additions to the team this year, Ben Adams, Kodi Lamotte and Matthew Risebrough.
In the mid-field, the ball was deftly manoeuvred through Dunbar's players by Gabriel Chamberlain, Kighe Coady and Jordy Fawcett, ultimately creating two more scoring opportunities completed by Josh Mowbray and Evan Woolford. Keeper Sebastian Rohlicek was tenacious in the face of Dunbar's perseverance.
In earlier games, the Wave won in a tight 2-1 match against North Vancouver Surge, and triumphed over the Grandview Clan 4-1.
U14 boys
Sunshine Coast United continued its perfect start to the season, beating visitors Dunbar 5-0 at Kinnikinnick Field last Saturday.
Midfielder Trevor Julius led the scoring with two goals, and Joel Dykstra, Bryn Davies and Griff Reader added singles.
The result also marked goalie Evan 'Fuzzy' Petersen's second straight shutout, as United won 1-0 on the road Sept. 18 with Ryan Judd scoring the game's only goal.
United opened the season Sept. 11 with a 3-1 home win.
Coach Darren Smith's boys now lead the U14 Silver 1 Division with maximum points. Their next game is against KLM Fusion in Burnaby tomorrow (Saturday).
U15 girls
Inferno picked up their first last Sunday after an exciting 1-0 win over the PTG Firecrackers.
Inferno has had a difficult start to the season with injuries. This game was no exception, as many girls were either injured or sick.
The goal for the game was to keep possession, and Inferno clearly did that for most of the match.
As usual, Inferno's defence played well, with Jackie Morris playing a smart, cool-headed game as sweeper. Only a couple of weak shots were allowed on goalie Cassie Armstrong, who picked up her first shutout of the year.
Clare Lyle and Sabrina Strom played smart outside defence, moving the ball up with many clean passes to the outside, and the midfield managed to keep possession by working hard to be first to the ball. Sydney Downie had an exceptional game on left midfield, beating opponents with her fancy footwork.
Anya Kuhling scored the lone goal in the first half of the match. Talia Barnum placed a nice pass in front of the 18-yard box, which Anya calmly placed into the back of the Firecrackers' net.
A few minutes later, Anya retaliated, with a great cross to Talia, which Talia popped in behind the goalkeeper, but was disallowed on an offside call.
