Now in its fifth season on the Sunshine Coast, Challenger Baseball, a division of the Sunshine Coast Softball Association, is excited to be hosting this year's Provincial Challenger Jamboree on Saturday, June 22 at Hackett Park in Sechelt.

Local organizers are looking for volunteers to help as team ambassadors, game facilitators or as general volunteers.

"This is our chance to showcase the Sunshine Coast and be involved in a fun-filled afternoon with a great bunch of kids," said Lennea Perpet who coordinates Challenger Baseball on the Sunshine Coast.

The one-day tournament, running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will see teams from around the province participating.

Challenger Baseball is for youth with physical or cognitive issues, and is structured in a way that takes all ability levels into account. Buddies are paired with players on the field for peer support, safety and skill building. Games are played on Saturdays at 11 a.m. The local season started in April and wraps up the Father's Day weekend (June 15 to 16) in concert with the wrap-up of Sechelt Minor Ball.

At the local level, registrations are still being accepted for players and volunteers are always welcome to come and lend a hand.

Local sponsors McDonalds, Sunshine Coast Lions Club, Gibsons Lions Club and the Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast, have already come on board to make the jamboree a successful event. The Lions clubs will both be manning the concession during the jamboree.

And volunteers or organizations that would like to be part of this event, or part of the Coast league, can contact Perpet at 604-885-8863 or email [email protected].
