The Chatelech ultimate team was on a roll in the end of the regular season.

With wins against Carson Graham and Sutherland, Chat headed into the North Shore zone finals in third place. As the only team with a junior/senior mixed team playing in the senior league, Chat faced some stiff competition, and was defeated in four out of five games. Despite this upset, Chat was awarded the equally prestigious spirit of the game banner.

"In the sport of ultimate, there are no referees, and honour on the field is an integral part of the game," said Chat coach Jamie Mani. "Teams rate each other on their spirit as part of the tournament, and thus the spirit of the game award is issued by one's opponents. Chat has been awarded either a spirit of the game banner or a championship banner at the North Shore zone finals for the last five consecutive years."

Mani said the team is working hard on learning from their performance at the zones as they head to the tier two provincial championships at the end of the month in Burnaby.

Chat secondin golf finals

Chatelech finished in second place in the North Shore finals for high school golf last week.

The four-team playoff featuring Chat, Collingwood, Seycove and Don Ross took place at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club in Roberts Creek. Collingwood finished first with Seycove third and Don Ross in fourth.

Dempster wins

Gibsons Ryan Dempster finally got some run support as he won his second game of the season May 13 as the Chicago Cubs beat the San Francisco Giants 11-4.

Dempster pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits with 11 strikeouts, bringing his record to 2-4.

Softball win

The Gibsons Midget Crusherz, sponsored by Seamount Shell, finished first in their tournament at Softball City in Surrey over the May 7 weekend, winning all their games and finishing with a 5-0 record.
