A co-ed U30 adult soccer league is set to take the pitch here on the Coast.
League organizers held a series of games last Saturday in Sechelt as a way to garner interest in the league that will hopefully start next June.
Tyler Blair is one of the league organizers. He said there is a lot of interest in starting the league.
"When you get out of youth soccer, there is nothing out there for you," Blair said. "The men's league is for 30 and over players, and while the women's league is open, they have all their teams, so I think there is a need. In the past we have had players turned away from seven-a-side leagues. You get out of high school and many players want a chance to continue their soccer career. This league will give them a chance to do that."
Blair said he wants to run the league from June to the end of August to attract more university players who are away during the school year, but often return to the Coast for the summer.
"We have no limits or expectations about the league at this point. We just want to get out there and play," he said. "I'm pretty pleased with the turnout that we had this weekend considering the short notice and the Thanksgiving weekend. The goal is to just keep building on these positives, create some good word of mouth and come June get the league going."
You can check out the league on Facebook at U30 soccer tournament, and in the next few months, a league website will be up and running with everything from when the league will start up to registration and games.
