The Sunshine Coast Volleyball Club's (SCVC) U14 girls finished second in the Lower Mainland Regional tournament last weekend

This two-day, 20-team tournament is a seeding tournament for the upcoming provincial volleyball championships.

SCVC placed first in its pool in day one of play, establishing it within the top 12 teams going into day two.

The girls' first match on Sunday was against the North Shore Stars.

SCVC controlled the match and moved easily into the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinal match up was against the higher ranked Air Attack Club.

SCVC setters Talia Sweet and Sophie Enevoldson ran a strong court, setting up middles Iris Smallwood, Aly Fors and Taylor Whittall who racked up several clean kills. This match was a three-set battle that resulted in a SCVC win, advancing the team to the semifinals.

The semifinal match up would be against Apex Volleyball Club. SCVC was ready for redemption from a previous loss against Apex. Another hard fought three sets brought about the win. Power hitters Amber Henderson, Arianna Harder and Parker Blackwell put away Emma Judd's perfect sets. Jordan Allen pressured Apex with her hard, deep serves and ultimately secured the win.

The finals brought SCVC head-to-head with their long-standing rivals, Gecko volleyball club. Charlotte Buhr and Morgan Dear worked hard defensively. However, SCVC couldn't find the energy, after a long two days, to push past this strong, defensive club.

Coach Jan Richey is thrilled with the team's success and looks forward to the upcoming provincial tournament as this team continues on their exciting road to nationals.
