On the weekend of March 16, a large delegation of Sunshine Coast Minor Hockey Association Tyke players and their families made their way to the Vancouver Thunderbird H1-H4 tournament.
The Tykes met some stiff competition from South Delta at their first game Saturday morning at UBC. This was the Tykes first time playing an official game, and it took some time to get their game on, but they did manage to score a goal.
The second game against the Firebolts from Vancouver was even tougher. The Tykes were outmatched in skill and size, but managed to get a goal. With Angus 'The Wall' Petri in net, the Firebolts win wasn't such a big spread.
On day two, the Tykes were on fire. In their first game they scored two goals minutes into the first period against the Gators. They were working together and playing their positions better. Although they didn't pull out a win, with four goals overall, and a strong defence, it was a close game.
In their last game against the Lighting, the team, coaches and parents were excited and energized. The Tykes were so optimistic and looking for a win. The game was magic! The team couldn't have played better together and the goals kept sliding in. The players fought hard, worked hard and pulled out their first win - an amazing end to a fantastic tourney.
