The Sunshine Coast Skating Club is excited to have partnered with the BCRPA and the SogoActive Initiative, enabling them to offer two special scholarships for the CanSkate program running Feb. 13 to March 29.

These scholarships are available to low-income families that might not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in the CanSkate program. There will be one scholarship available for Gibsons and one for Sechelt.

Applications can be picked up at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre or Sechelt bulletin boards. Contact [email protected] for more information.

In other club news, a high/low test day was held recently bringing in a judge and dance partner from Vancouver. Powell River Skate Club also participated.

The following tests were passed by club members: Elisabeth Lyle: baby blues, swing, preliminary free skate part one; Beres Clements: baby blues; Maya Moudahi: fiesta tango and willow waltz; Madison Welch: willow waltz and 10 fox; and Caitlin Jarvis: Harris tango and the American waltz.

The results gave the club a 100 per cent pass rate for the winter tests.

Spring skating will be taking place at the Sunshine Coast Arena in Sechelt. Registration started Feb. 6.

Along with regular programming, the club is very excited to offer CanSkate on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. The program will run for six weeks between April 2 and May 18. Not sure if CanSkate is for you? Come and take advantage of the club's try-it-free day on Tuesday, April 2. If you like it and sign up for the full session after trying it out, the club is offering 10 per cent off registration fees for new members.

All spring sessions will be held at the Sechelt arena.
