Floorball is a fast-paced game of floor hockey that originated in Finland and has been played throughout Europe for many years. It is now gaining in popularity in North America. The stick handling skills that it develops are fantastic and can be seen demonstrated by many of the younger players in the NHL. For more info and to see some "sick videos" of how the game is played, check outwww.floorballpro.com/shop/pages.php?pageid=17 or see www.floorballpro.com.

This winter the SCRD has introduced the game to a few minor hockey teams and the kids have had an absolute blast playing it. Hockey Canada is now endorsing it as a great off-season training tool and has incorporated it into its academy programs.

On April 10, there will be a team coming to the Coast from Floorball BC for a demo.

Sessions run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ages 5 to 10 and 1:30 to 3 p.m. for ages 11 to 14.

And that's not all. Lacrosse and ball hockey will also be offered by the SCRD on April 10.

Lacrosse will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. and ball hockey from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. Lacrosse and floorball are free, but regular admission rates apply for ball hockey, ages five to 12. Register on-line at www.scrd.ca or call 604-885-6801.
