Thunder keep on rolling

Being the last competing rep soccer team left on the Sunshine Coast on the hottest day of the year so far, sporting their neon yellow alternate jerseys, the U13 Thunder girls' team took to the field against Squamish United last Sunday.

Being the last competing rep soccer team left on the Sunshine Coast on the hottest day of the year so far, sporting their neon yellow alternate jerseys, the U13 Thunder girls' team took to the field against Squamish United last Sunday.

The team effort was amazing and it showed with a final score of 2-0 and a chance to continue on for a spot at the provincials. The game was the first of a round of playoff games leading to a spot for the provincials in July.

Early in the first half, keeper Lydia Harvey-Lloyd booted the ball up to the midfielders who in turn passed up to forward Georgie Aleong who cracked a beauty into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Foofy Foody was a tank as the "last man back" and, with the help of defenders Melissa Iverson, Kiah Duffy, Pearl Deasey and Sophie Fielder, seemed to form a brick wall and made the opportunity for United to score next to none.

Early in the second half, a pass to Georgie again made its way into the United net.

Wingers Sienna Lewarne, Lucy Schick and Lu-Lu Kammerle dangled the ball up the field and pounded the ball to the midfielders. Emma Cooney just shot wide as she was taken down inside the box. Alyssa Rive took a ball to the face and then shot wide. Nisha Wells shot with all her might only to hit the crossbar. Ingrid Hansen shot like she was a football player trying to shoot a field goal, and Hollie Piepjohn took shot after shot only to find the ball going high or wide or everywhere but in the net.

Thunder's next scheduled playoff game is this Sunday, May 12, at 11:30 a.m. at Shirley Macey Park.
