Sunshine Coast's U18 girls Adrenaline beat the first-place and unbeaten Vancouver Thunder 2-1 in Vancouver last Sunday in rep soccer action.
The Adrenaline struck first with a smart back pass from the midfield to Zoey Schutz, who delivered a 35 to 40-yard kick that sailed over the goalie and into the mesh.
The second goal came shortly after when an Adrenaline corner kick put the ball into striking range and a well-placed header by Talia Barnum found the back of the net. The Thunder's first and only goal came late in the first half and set the stage for the aggressive soccer to come in the second half.
Not wanting to concede their first loss, the Thunder applied incredible pressure during the last 20 minutes. The Adrenaline defence thwarted repeated attacks, while Adrenaline keeper Jennifer Robertson put on a dazzling display, making key save after key save to ensure the victory.
As is always the case with the Adrenaline, the win can also be attributed to a passing game that is second to none and has even the opposition fans offering praise.
Adrenaline has only one loss in the 13 games they've played since coming together as a team this summer.
The next game for the Adrenaline is at 1:30 p.m. this Sunday, Nov. 24, at Kinnikinnick Park in Sechelt.
U11 girls
The U11 Storm headed to Jericho on Sunday to play a rematch with Vancouver's Electric Lime team.
This was only the second game that Storm has played on an artificial turf field, and unfortunately the turf and Vancouver got the better of them, but not without a fine effort from all of the girls.
The teams were evenly matched with strong plays by Storm's defensive line sending the ball up the field where the midfielders were able to look for passes out to the wings.
Storm's offence had several shots on net, but were not able to hit the mark. The girls have a few more games to play before they take a break for the winter season.
House league
Blue Thunder and Highlighters locked up in U15 boys' house league action last Saturday.
Both teams came out really strong. Nofa Messner carried the ball really well and neutralized the Highlighters' attacks. Nathan Howard, Quinton Ruth and Nathan Howard of the Highlighters defended well and showed some great footwork.
All four goalies were the big news for this close game. Blue Thunder's Mikaly Newton and Aiden Beley made some thrilling saves and saved the day for their team. Payton Coyle and Marvin Via were instrumental in keeping the game close for Highlighters.
Liam Fulkerson and Dylan Broeke shared the MVP award for Blue Thunder. Liam almost scored an awesome goal, but was denied by a foul by the Highlighters. Dylan scored the winning goal for his team, which ended up being 3-2 to Blue Thunder.
U10 girls
It was another great day for soccer at Waterfront Park with Halfmoon Bay Orange Crushes hosting Team Navy.
While the ball went end to end, very few made it past Sedona Allen on defence for Orange. The speedy Izabella Biddulph and her sidekick Sharlene Johnston kept the Navy defence on its toes shaking the net and bringing in a victory for the Orange Crushes.
Last weekend wrapped up the fall season for U10s and U12s. Winter break has started for most house division teams. Look for the next scheduled games in February 2014.
