Thunder advance in Coastal Cup

After a month's break with no league games, the U13 Thunder took to the field against the Richmond Impact in the first round of the Coastal Cup playdowns, coming away with an impressive 3-0 win.

After a month's break with no league games, the U13 Thunder took to the field against the Richmond Impact in the first round of the Coastal Cup playdowns, coming away with an impressive 3-0 win.

The beginning of the game saw Richmond pressing hard, but soon the Thunder found its groove and winger Geordie Owen got the ball, took it down the wing, cut inside the 18-yard box and curled a beauty into the top left corner of the net.

Up by one to start the second half, Thunder pressed, and with a through ball to Georgie Aleong she ran onto it, dribbled past the defence and shot from the left side of the field to make the fans think it was going wide, but it somehow rolled across the goal line and found the back of the net.

Moments later Lucy Schick carried the ball through traffic and kicked a through ball to Nisha Wells, who pounded it into the net.

Keeper Lydia Harvey-Lloyd earned her first shutout in a cup game.

U14 Scorpions

The Scorpions picked up a 4-0 win over the Marpole Cheetahs during the April 5th weekend to advance further in the Coastal Cup playdowns.

A sluggish start by the Scorpions put goalkeeper Tristan Tidder under pressure, but living up to the challenge, Tristan stopped a penalty kick early in the first half and made three other key saves, keeping the game scoreless at the half.

In the second half, the Scorpions showed their offensive prowess.

Jordan Kammerle, on a pass from Bradley Huddlestone, opened the scoring.Defenders Duncan Armstrong, Evan Griffin, Philip Fogarty, Keegan Inkster and Cole Cooney managed the Cheetahs offence with finesse.Wingers Finn Rogers and Gabe Goerzen used their speed and determination to help the Scorpions defend and attack.

Ben Luporini scored the second goal, using his left foot on a tight shot to the far side of the Cheetahs' net.Quintin Towert scored the third goal, manoeuvring past the Cheetahs' defence to get a clear shot.Everett August scored the final goal of the game with a precision rocket from the 18-yard box.
