Hosted by Sunshine Coast Cycling, the 'Coaster' returns to Roberts Creek this weekend (May 5 and 6). It will be a full weekend of cycling events.
Saturday is the cross-country marathon race encompassing close to 50 km of local trails. There is also a 25 km option for those not-so-hardy riders. The winning time is expected to be around two hours and 10 minutes and with more than a dozen pro racers entered, race organizers expect some hot competition.
Also on Saturday the 'Off the Edge' Kids Race goes out at 10 a.m. right after the big race. This gives the young ones 5 km of single-track with lots of mud and a shallow creek crossing. They'll love it.
Around 1 p.m. Saturday there's a Run Bike Race, also hosted by Off the Edge. This is around a course of cones in the main corral. There's a Coaster beer mug for all entries and lots of draw prizes too.
Our friends the Sunshine Coast Equestrian Club will host the salmon barbecue after the race.
On Sunday, we see the return of the ever-popular downhill race on Mach Chicken. Limited to 200 racers, this event is almost sold out.
