The Suncoast Rays made waves at the Sea to Sky International Cheer Championship in Vancouver on April 4 to 5, bringing home second place in the U12 Prep Level 1 Small division — with a “hit zero” routine, meaning zero deductions!

This is a milestone moment, as the Rays are believed to be the first-ever competitive cheer team on the Sunshine Coast. Even more impressively, this was their very first season. The team began training last September, with choreography kicking off in November. Over the months, they’ve built a powerful team dynamic rooted in trust, positivity, and collaboration.

Want to join the Rays next season? Placement clinics for the 2025–2026 season are coming up:

• U16 (birth years 2009 to 2014): Monday, May 5 – 5:45 to 7:45 p.m.

• U12 (birth years 2013 to 2018): Tuesday, May 6 – 5:45 to 7:45 p.m.

Experience in cheer, gymnastics, or tumbling is helpful, but not required. Everyone is welcome!

Visit suncoastgym.ca for more info and to register. Placement forms will be available online at least two weeks prior to the clinic. Can’t make the dates or have questions? Email [email protected]

As a small but dedicated club, we pride ourselves on having a tight-knit program and a true family atmosphere. We hope that each athlete not only develops his or her cheerleading skills, but more importantly builds lasting relationships, confidence, self- esteem and gym pride while learning the values of sportsmanship and accountability in a competitive but supportive environment.
