The fifth annual Four Lakes 10k/3k saw a record turnout of 60 participants on a perfect summer morning at Katherine Lake Park last Sunday.
Garden Bay resident Ian Wall, who actually lives on the course near Hotel Lake, was the overall winner by a comfortable margin after pulling away from Sechelt's Paul Munro over the final couple kilometres. Munro hung on to second place ahead of fast-closing Meghan Molnar of Gibsons (overall female winner) and Gordon Flett of Vancouver. Yankees rough up Dempster
Gibsons Ryan Dempster lost his first game as a Texas Ranger Monday as the New York Yankees roughed up the right-hander in an 8-2 win.
Dempster matched a season high by allowing eight runs. The other time he allowed eight was in his first start for Texas on Aug. 2. In three starts since coming from the Chicago Cubs in a trade-deadline deal, Dempster has allowed 19 runs - 16 earned - in 17 1-3 innings.
Dempster still has not beaten New York. He is 0-4 in five career starts against the Yankees.
Last Friday Dempster was interviewed on the Jim Rome show where he talked about the trade and the adjustment to a new team.
"The last two weeks have been pretty crazy. The whole thing for me was leaving a situation I was very comfortable in and getting to a team that had the capability of winning, and that's what we have here in Texas," said Dempster. "This is a great team. When you get here there is a belief that we can win every game and it's a great feeling. When you're feeling good and you're playing well, you come to the ball park with such a good feeling. It's been a lot of fun so far and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season."
Dempster said he would always look back on his time in Chicago with good memories.
