As the 2018 soccer season fired up at Hackett Park in Sechelt last Saturday, our beloved juggernaut Storm U13 boys soccer team welcomed, for the third time, the Killarney United to our shores. Twice our Storm boys have played this team here at home, twice they have been amazing action-packed physical high-energy games on and off the field, and twice the Storm have won by a score of 3-1, pure soccer excitement.
This day was no different as our Storm boys know how to explode off the whistle and play hard the entire game. They all see each other on the pitch, each player is supported from all sides and the passes are sweet, accurate and unrelenting – which led the talented Killarney United to scramble after them for most of the game.
The Storm went up first 1-0, after a beautiful combination of give and go passes leading to a textbook assault on net. The fans immediately knew that our boys were looking ready to play hard solid soccer.
The first half ended in a tie 1-1 as United were able to take advantage of brief gaps in the Storm cohesion with their patented fast-paced down the line attack; but good games always keep you on your toes wanting more.
The second half literally exploded and never stopped as the Storm simply made more and more incredible newsworthy offensive attacks, almost like they were trying to get better with each pass, learning from each other and testing the United defence ruthlessly. The Storm defence looked more determined than ever to run down attackers, move dangerous balls out of their end and look to each other for strong support mechanisms. With a team that really enjoys playing together, has a lot of fun working the magic that they clearly have with each other and each player pushing the next to new levels of greatness, it was only a matter of time before the score went up to 3-1 again for the third time in as many meetings.
It was spectacular sports at its best and the fans were once again blown away with what the experienced passionate coaches and skilled players have done here this year together as a team.
The U13 Storm boys will meet this Killarney team again at the end of February in the separate BC Cup series leading down the road to the provincial championships. If this game was any indication of what is to come, be prepared to watch this team do more amazing things as the season moves forward. The boys are away in the city for the next three weekend games and then home again on Feb. 4.
