Storm girls tie Synergy in full-tilt battle

Royal Lumley was a skillful force to be reckoned with during this very tough match. Her awesome speed and ball control made sure to always keep this game within reach.

Last Sunday, Dec. 3, at Kinnikinnick, the talented Sunshine Coast Storm girls U15 soccer team took on the Coquitlam Synergy. With just enough girls to field a team, without any substitutes, the Storm girls looked ready to work hard and stay warm.

As the game opened up into a full-tilt battle, the Synergy revealed their qualities, a strong strike force with speed and an aggressive mid-field looking for ball control. This put the Storm defence on immediate alert and the mid-fielders identified their checks to great effect.

Our solid crew of athletes made every effort to link up sweet passes and penetrate the rough and ready back wall of the Synergy. It looked like a true back and forth from both sides, but the Storm had no breaks or fresh legs to relieve the fatigue.

The first goal came from Synergy but was very quickly and decisively levelled up by the Storm, 1-1. This put a new fire under the Storm, which dug even deeper, became more unified and coordinated, ignoring the continuous dark banter from the other team and put another one in to give them the 2-1 advantage. And just like last week’s epic battle which played out eerily the same, it looked like that would be a day’s victory – when a brief lapse in focus combined with a strong charge from Synergy gave them the tying goal to end the day at 2-2.
